Recognizing your special needs
As a long-term health care provider, Maine Veterans' Homes maintains the dignity and respect of all residents. We understand the fear of dying alone or dying in pain. If spending the final stages of life at home is not an option, Maine Veterans' Homes makes available the care that is necessary in order to provide residents and their loved ones with comfort, compassion and respect.

Comfort and Pain Management
Maine Veterans' Homes realizes that sometimes the goal is not to cure illnesses but rather to provide comfort to terminally ill residents and to give support to their families. MVH professionals are trained to manage pain or other symptoms of illnesses.

Interdisciplinary Approach
Specialized End of Life training associated with veterans' issues is made available to MVH staff and volunteers.

Social needs and spiritual needs

Additional Resources
Maine Veterans' Homes partners with the Maine Hospice Council and the Hospice Veterans Partnerships of Maine to ensure that excellent end of life care is available for our nation's veterans and their families. When appropriate, Maine Veterans' Homes utilizes outside hospice services in order to meet the needs of the individual resident and their family members.
