The first of our six facilities, our Augusta home opened in March of 1983, and is located in a beautiful country setting that includes fields, woods and a natural wetland area. Inside the facility you will find 24 hour RN coverage in three separate nursing units: a 40 bed rehabilitation and skilled nursing care unit, a 40 bed long-term care unit and a 40 bed secured long-term care unit for residents with Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias and a 30 bed residential care unit designed to meet the needs of those in the early stages of dementia. The focus is on returning the patient to their home and community, whenever possible. Maine Veterans' Home of Augusta is a teaching facility. We maintain affiliations with hospitals, schools of medicine, universities, community colleges and vocational schools. Medical students, social workers, nurses, certified nursing assistants, therapists and dietary technicians train at our facility. Our Medical Director comes to us through an arrangement with the University of New England (UNE), Division on Aging. UNE also provides educational programs to our staff. These affiliations help to keep us on the leading edge of gerontological nursing and geriatric medicine.

Bangor was the fifth of our six multi-service homes. Opening in October of 1995, it is located on a hill overlooking the banks of the Penobscot River. Inside the facility you will find four separate nursing units: a 40 bed rehabilitation and skilled nursing care unit, a 40 bed long-term care unit, a 40 bed secured long-term care unit for residents with Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias, and a 30 bed residential care unit designed to meet the needs of those in the early stages of dementia.

Maine Veterans' Home - Bangor has a medical team that works for you, including a licensed Medical Director and 24 hour RN coverage. The medical and therapy team's focus is on returning the patient to their home and community, whenever possible. We develop an individualized plan of care that integrates nursing care with a rehabilitation program. Maine Veterans' Homes of Bangor continuously monitors patient progress and measures outcomes.

Our Caribou facility is equipped with 70 beds and provides skilled nursing, rehabilitation and Alzheimer/Dementia care. Maine Veterans' Home - Caribou has a medical team that works for you, including a Medical Director and 24 hour RN coverage. The medical and therapy team's focus is on returning the patient to their home and community, whenever possible. Machias is the sixth of the six long term care Maine Veterans' Home. It was built on the campus of the Down East Community Hospital provides a 30-bed residential care facility for veterans, their spouses, widows, widowers, and gold star parents in the early stages of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementias.
